STATIC-X Going For A 'Harder And More Metallic' Approach
August 2, 2007Ramiro Burr of San Antonio's Express-News reports: STATIC-X's singer Wayne Static says the group's new CD, "Cannibal", is a return to the band's basic hard-metal sound.
"This time around I wanted to push it in a more metallic direction, use some of the thrash-metal guitar picking that I haven't used in years," he said. "And having our original guitar player back, Koichi (Fukuda),to do some guitar solos helped out. I just wanted to go heavier this time."
Even casual fans will find a difference between the new CD and its 2005 predecessor, "Start a War", he said.
"The approach to the guitar work and the approach to the vocals on this album is definitely harder and more metallic," Static said. "'Start a War' had some heavy moments for sure, but overall there were a lot of moodier parts to it.
"The whole (new) album is undeniably STATIC-X. You listen to three seconds from anywhere in the record and you know it's definitely STATIC-X. That's one thing I always try to do, keep everything in the same mold so that it does sound like the same band. But the song 'Cannibal' itself, I think, is a great representation of where the band is at right now. It's very simplistic with the guitar riff and it repeats over and some electronic elements blending in seamlessly. High energy."
